> How a pre-arrival age check sits beside the Licensing Act 2003. It does not replace Challenge 25 or licence conditions.

Protection of children from harm is one of the four licensing objectives in the Licensing Act 2003. A pre-arrival check is a record that the age was set when the guest signed up or paid, and that the date of birth on the document was compared with it.

It does not answer crime and disorder, public safety, or public nuisance. It does not replace Challenge 25 when alcohol is served. Staff still ask for ID at the bar when someone appears under the venue's policy. Conditions on the premises licence still apply.

This page is not legal advice. Licensing conditions differ by premises and by council.
